Sunset Dolphin Tour

Once arriving in Cape Harbour, it didn’t take me long to research and look for fun things to do in the area. Walking downstairs, I saw a sign for a sunset dolphin tour that started right here in the marina area. I pondered it for a few days and did a little GOOGLE research…. Lol……

After many positive reviews, I booked a tour with Banana Bay Tour Company. We were scheduled for a sunset tour that had to be rescheduled three times due to weather. I thought that this might propose a hassle or possible miss-communication, but that was not the case at all. The staff was always super friendly and accommodating. They even offered my money back due to so many cancelations. I explained that I lived in the area and would prefer to wait for a nice weather night to enjoy the trip.

I am so thankful that the weather finally cleared. This was the best excursion tour I have taken in a long time. JR and Julia were our tour guides for the evening. Both were very friendly and welcoming from the start of the tour.  They followed social distancing guidelines and were very cautious about sanitizing and cleaning everything. I know it is a safety measure, but the only unenjoyable part for me was that they require a mask to be worn. I know this is a touchy subject, but I really feel claustrophobic in the mask but safety first.

From the moment we launched from the docks by Rumrunners, the energy and excitement were in full swing. They both shared facts about themselves and the animals and environmental surroundings we were cruising by.

They made sure to visit with each family on the boat and get to know a little bit about each of us. My daughter liked that part of it. Being 18 in a very retirement type community has been challenging for us both. They showed interest in each family. There was a perfect amount of conversation mixed with breathtaking views of the sunset.

As we were stopped talking about the dolphins in the area and where they typically are seen, the captain received a radio call that another boat had spotted some dolphins not far from where we were. He took off in the direction of the sighting.

In no time, we were watching a group of dolphins chase each other all over. We began to notice that it was four moms who each had a baby dolphin with them. The captain continued to circle as we got to witness this fantastic moment, with the background being a beautiful sunset. It was one of the most vibrant, stunning sunsets I have ever seen. I did not want the tour ever to end.

The sun soon began to sink deep beneath the horizon, which meant it was time to head back to the dock. The ride back in was spent taking in the pink sky that was becoming even more beautiful with each moment that passed. As the sky turned dark Julia came around to make sure everyone was doing ok and had enjoyed their time on the tour.

I can say that the wait and rescheduling of our tour were well worth it. The Banana Bay Tour Company knows how to make the experience of an excursion one with memories that will last a lifetime.
